About the Program
International students are eligible to enroll in the Industrial Heavy Equipment Technician (IHET) program, and are also eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit program (PGWPP). Please note, however, that Alberta apprenticeship is a training program that is limited to Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada. Temporary visa holders (such as those participating on the PGWPP) do not meet the eligibility requirements and are not able to register through the on-line apprenticeship registration system.
Activity in the areas of mining, logging, trucking, agriculture, transportation, gas processing, oilfield servicing and construction has resulted in a demand for heavy equipment service personnel with an advanced level of technical training to tackle the challenge of advancing technology. The heavy equipment service industry encompasses all on-highway and off-highway mobile equipment as well as engine-powered stationary equipment.
This program is designed for the individual who wants to enter the heavy equipment repair field as a technologist. The objective of this program is to prepare graduates to assume productive roles in industry and, with the addition of work experience, to excel in the areas of troubleshooting, system analysis, training, leadership or sales in the heavy equipment field.
