Where it Can Take You
Medical information is increasing exponentially all the time. Every day we hear about some new threat to our health, a new disease, a miracle drug or perhaps a drug that has been removed from the market due to side effects. The electronic health record (EHR) adds to the speed with which other medical specialists can access a patient's medical information—it must be accurate. You will play a vital role in telling the patient's story—this personal connection and a passion to continue learning make this a rewarding and exciting career.
Entry-level positions are offered in diverse settings, including hospitals, medical clinics, doctors’ offices, insurance companies, laboratories, telecommuting or self-employed. The Medical Transcription career can fit your lifestyle whether you want to work part-time or full-time.

What successful grads have to say
"The Medical Transcription program taught me the fundamentals that are necessary for any career in healthcare. I learned the basics as well as the up-to-date trends in transcription that are currently being used in the workplace. I knew I had an interest in anatomy and physiology, and through this program, I discovered a passion for transcription that I did not know I had. It gives me the opportunity and flexibility to work in a variety of healthcare settings and to gain experience as I continue my education in healthcare."
I completed the MT program at NAIT during the 2013/2014 school year. I was 33 years old at the time (yes, one of the oldest in my class). I have 2 elementary school-aged children, and my husband was working away (up North) at the time that I was in school. I began the year feeling very overwhelmed and unsure if this was even possible; however, my desire to have a job that (potentially) could allow me to work around my family drove me to "buckle down" and give it my all. The instructors were supportive and encouraging the whole way through and ensured that I had every tool possible that was needed for my success, including knowing exactly what was expected from me in school. The MT program was an amazing experience for me. I made friends for life. I stretched myself and followed the plan as was made and given by my course instructors and successfully completed the course on the Dean's List. I am proud of myself and my achievements at NAIT, and so are my daughters, and I am blessed with a career that I truly love!
"I exceedingly enjoyed my time at NAIT. I found it very easy to succeed working with such passionate instructors. The small class size really allows everyone to come together as a group to connect and learn as a community. The course provides enough flexibility for the student to work and grow at his/her own pace but enough structure to stick to and be motivated by the goal at the end of the year. There is no doubt that students will come out of this course with all the confidence and skills needed to meet the challenges ahead of them."
I took the Medical Transcription program at NAIT after years of raising my children. The program was well organized and extremely thorough; I found it both enjoyable and achievable at my stage of life. After graduation, I was quickly able to secure employment in the field. Now, many years later as a supervisor that hires medical transcriptionists, I look to NAIT grads as my preferred source of candidates. NAIT’s program has continually adapted to the changes in the field thus providing superior preparation for a career in Medical Transcription.
