About the Program
The Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology is a 4-year degree based on a 2+2 model.
- Years 1 & 2 - diploma in a related field appropriate to the major concentration of study. See Entrance Requirements for accepted equivalent diplomas.
- Years 3 & 4 - 2 semesters of academic courses in a major area of study and 2 semesters of credit work experience
Students can choose from two major/course streams depending on their area of specialization. The two major streams are Information Systems and Network Management.
Information Systems Major
This major concentrates on the advanced techniques, current methodologies and tools involved in the analysis, design and implementation of large, scalable computer information systems. Graduates of this major will fill career opportunities as senior systems analysts and designers, and project leaders.
Network Management Major
This major involves highly specialized preparation geared toward managing the planning, installation and operations of computer networks in very large enterprises. Graduates of this Major will be prepared for career opportunities as network managers, network engineers and network administrators
Student Intakes/Start Dates
Students wishing to complete the program as a fulltime student should apply for the September intake for their preferred major. For internship information, please contact the Internship Coordinator.
Due to the size of the program, not all courses are offered in all semesters. Most courses are only offered in one semester per year.

Please note: This information is provided to help you estimate your costs for student financing. Some courses may also have additional expenses. Students who take all of their courses online are exempt from U-Pass, Health & Dental, and Recreation & Athletics fees. All fees are subject to change.
- A two-year diploma in an IT program related to the major selected
- An overall minimum GPA of 2.3
- Course work must be completed within five years of the application date

Applicants who do not have a two-year diploma, may be eligible for admission if 60 post-secondary credits in an accredited IT or computing science program have been completed. A minimum of 45 credits must specifically be related to the skillsets identified in the additional requirements or considerations of the major selected.
Applicants who completed their related education more than five years ago and are working in an IT-related field, may be eligible for admission through the Recognition of Prior Learning Pathway

In order to have the best opportunity for success, the program recommends that students have the following skillsets prior to applying and selecting their major:
Information Systems Major Skillsets

- Programming - introductory to advanced training in Object Oriented languages (C, C++, C#, JAVA) and frameworks such as .NET (500 hrs)
- Data Theory - database concepts, tools, management, SQL (200 hrs)
- System Analysis and Design (100 hrs)
- Business Processes - communication, organization and information flow, introductory accounting, project management (500 hrs)

Network Management Major

Students must complete one academic year (2 four-month semesters) of mandatory work experience in their related major. Students must have successfully completed eight (8) academic courses prior to registering for their first work experience term.
Contact the Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology Internship Co-ordinator to have the planned work experience evaluated.
- Length: 2 four-month semesters (8 months total)
- Type of Experience: directly related to the major area selected.
- Salary: Vary by employer, usually based on student's prior education and experience. Average earnings in 2014 were approximately $30.00 per hour.
- Relocation: Students can complete their work experience anywhere.

Bob and Wendy Hiew are both NAIT graduates from the Electrical Engineering and Accounting programs. Bob and Wendy have established this bursary in order to support students who are experiencing financial difficulties so they can devote their time to their studies in order to embark on a good career. Available to a second year student enrolled in any full time credit program in either the JR Shaw School of Business, or the School of Applied Sciences and Technology at NAIT. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and a minimum academic achievement of 75% in the first year of their program at NAIT.

Available to students who graduated from an Alberta High School and are enrolled in the first year of the Computer Engineering Technology, Network Engineering Technology or Bachelor of Applied Systems Technology. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and a minimum academic achievement of 70% in the first semester of the program. Recipients will demonstrate a commitment to education through participation in supplement education programs for their development, or by supporting other students' learning through mentoring or tutoring. As well, recipients will demonstrate leadership through a history of leadership roles and development in experiential learning programs like Scouts, Junior Achievement Company Program or 4H; or in leading change through student government, charity or community service.

Frank Bochek is a retired electronics technician who was born and raised in the coal-mining town Sterco, in the foothills of Alberta. His innate curiosity and fascination of how things work make him the ultimate science guy, with a particular passion for computers and electronics. He was the owner/operator of “Frank’s Radio Clinic” in his early career, and was later responsible for small engine and electrical repairs as well as the installation and maintenance of computers in the Yellowhead School Division – including the original Commodore 64. Throughout his life Frank has been committed to volunteerism and community work, cheerfully serving others.Available to first year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Network Administrator, Electronics Engineering Technology, Network Engineering Technology and Wireless Systems Engineering Technology programs at NAIT. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need as well as community involvement or volunteer work.
