Jennifer Pendura – Cenovus Energy
“The skill sets, the right attitudes, the ability to hit the ground running: that’s what students who graduate from NAIT have. These are the kind of people we want on our team. They truly are essential for the future of Alberta, our economy and our company.”

Cenovus Energy Inc.
As a young girl growing up in Edmonton, Jennifer Pendura never anticipated working in Alberta’s “other major city,” or, for that matter, working for a major player in the oil and gas sector. Today, as a group lead for Cenovus’s Community Affairs Department, she works with institutions and communities across the province, determining how the company’s strategic investments are directed.
Cenovus is committed to building brighter, more vibrant futures for young people. “Being able to develop and deliver the NAIT Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program really does fulfil that mandate,” she explains. Improving grades, keeping youth in school and creating employment opportunities—those are goals that align completely with what Cenovus is all about.
Cenovus’s partnership with NAIT has been strategic, focused on training people who will make great employees. Power engineers, for example, are integral to the company’s operations. “NAIT really is essential for our future success,” she says.
“We need skilled trades, well-educated NAIT students who are ready to enter the workforce immediately. Many of these graduates become Cenovus employees and work in the broader oil and gas industry. That truly is essential for the future of Alberta, our economy and our company.”
