Plastic Manufacturing Process Operator Certificate
Knowledge of plastic processing from the plastics point of view is of utmost importance to the employees and technicians employed by the plastic industry.
Every control adjustment in the machines directly or indirectly changes one of the 4 variables viz. Melt Temperature, Melt Pressure, Flow Rate and Cooling Rate. By learning the processing from this perspective, the machine operators and technicians not only will be able to understand "how" of the processing but also the "why". This fundamental knowledge will help them analyze and correct a broad range of potential problems being faced during the plastic processing operations.
In order to meet this growing industry need, the NAIT Shell Manufacturing Centre (NSMC) has developed the Plastics Manufacturing Process Operator (PMPO) Certificate Program that will help local plastic processing industry develop and retain their workforce. The program will help meet industry’s production floor training needs. Plastic companies know that an investment in the on-going training of their personnel pays huge dividends, especially for a reduction in rework and waste.
Level - I
The Plastics Manufacturing Process Operator (PMPO) certificate program is tailored for the existing and new molding machine operators and covers basics of blow molding - parts and operation of mold machine and mold, basic operations of main machine controls and basics of plastic materials and their flow behaviour.
Level - II
The Level - 1 PMPO certificate will serve as a pre-requisite for staff wishing to proceed to the plastics manufacturing machine technician (PMNT) certificate program.
The Level - 1 PMPO certificate program consists of seven 14-hour modules. Each module includes approximately 50 percent lecture and approximately 50 percent practice in a lab setting.
Initially, the program will only be offered on a company-by-company basis, with in-class theory followed by on-site practice at the employer's site but can also be delivered during the week to meet client needs.
- Post Secondary Diploma in a related field or equivalent.
- A working knowledge of plastic molding machines.
- A basic knowledge of automated processes.
