Women's soccer score a win
September 17, 2009
The NAIT Ooks ran into tough opposition during the weekend and gained only a split with the Grande Prairie Wolves in ACAC women's soccer.
Playing at home, the Wolves posted a 2-1 victory in the Saturday opener. NAIT rebounded on Sunday for a 2-0 victory.
Lisa Martin opened scoring for NAIT in the opening game but the lead was erased shortly before the half on a Grande Prairie goal by Sydney Spencer.
Intense play marked the remaining minutes and both teams had numerous scoring chances. Spencer hit the crossbar on a penalty kick before Amanda Wamsley connected, also on a penalty, to ice the decision.
On Sunday, NAIT had control almost from the opening whistle. Leanne Kadatz and Jessica Sousa accounted for the scoring and goalkeeper Jennifer Garwasiuk was steady throughout, facing some serious chances from Grande Prairie late in the game.
