Director of Athletics and Recreation's Welcome
On behalf of the Department of Athletics and Recreation here at NAIT, it is with pleasure that I welcome you to a new "Ook" varsity season. We are thrilled to have the continued support of the NAIT community.
This season promises to be an exciting one. We are pleased and honoured to have won the bid to host the CCAA Badminton Nationals March 4-6, 2010 and to host the men's and women's National Soccer Championships in November 2010. In addition we are in the process of increasing our athletic scholarships for all student-athletes and we have several new and highly successful recruits to add to the playing rosters.
NAIT's athletic history is rich in tradition. Since its inception into the CCAA in 1978, NAIT student-athletes have won 17 gold medals, 15 silver medals and six bronze medals at National Championships. Along with this they have won over 160 ACAC team and individual medals since its inclusion in 1968.
In 2008-2009, NAIT continued its successes capturing national titles in men's badminton singles and in mixed doubles, and NAIT won a silver medal and a bronze medal in women's national badminton singles. NAIT also won ACAC medals in soccer, badminton, golf, cross country running and curling. In addition, four NAIT student-athletes received CCAA All Canadian awards in soccer, badminton and volleyball.
Academics are an integral part of a student-athletes life at NAIT. To date, NAIT has received over 60 ACAC Academic awards and over 36 national scholar awards. In 2008-2009, NAIT had three Academic All Canadians in volleyball, soccer and badminton.
AS NAIT athletics embarks on a new era, I invite each of you to attend as many varsity functions as possible. With the strength and professionalism of our coaches and administrative staff along with over 200 dedicated student-athletes, NAIT will be in the hunt for many more provincial and national titles.
Thank you in advance for your support and I look forward to seeing you at all of our home games.
Go Ooks Go!
Sincerely,
Linda Henderson
Director of Athletics and Recreation
