Ooks Volleyball

November 17, 2009

The NAIT Ooks continue to show progress in men's volleyball as they move toward the annual end-of-year layoff.

During the weekend, they split with the competent Lakeland Rustlers, winning 3-1 on Saturday but allowing Lakeland to rally with three consecutive set victories for a 3-2 triumph the next day.

Scores were 25-16, 24-26, 25-22 and 25-19 on on Saturday. Sunday's scores were 18-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-15 and 15-13.

"We came out focused and played a disciplined match," head coach Simon Fedun said. "It was important to limit our unforced errors."

"In the second match, things looked extremely positive in for awhile. For the first time this year, we showed up on Day Two ready to play," the coach expanded.

After capturing the first two sets, they seemed to run out of gas. "This is another good lesson for our young group," Fedun said. "We have to keep learning and move forward."

The female Ooks also split their weekend series, dropping the opening match in three sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-22) and bouncing back for an impressive three-set triumph (25-22, 25-21, 25-18) victory in the wrap-up at home on Sunday.

Both teams play in Grande Prairie on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
