Go out and have a (paint)ball!

Greetings and salutations friends! It’s time yet again for my weekly rant, are you ready?

Let’s start off with the weekend…as planned, I wound up going paintballing at Young Guns down in Spruce grove with a bunch of my friends. I had a fantastic time, aside from getting shot of course! I have some pretty big welts, and though some might view them as badges of honor, I look at them more as painful reminders of miscues on my part. We ended up going against some people with these crazy guns that fired like 30 rounds per second, they absolutely slaughtered us. A word to the wise…try and avoid getting shot in the face, paint isn’t the most tasty thing.

On the school front, things are still fairly calm…I’m beginning to wonder if this is the way things will be for the rest of the year. I mean, usually the first year of a program is designed to weed out students with a less than stellar work ethic, but it seems as though we’ve gone from one extreme to another! Oh well, guess I shouldn’t be complaining, it just gives me more time to work on the BFL club, get ready for my first Board of Governors meeting (which is on the 6th of October, incidentally), and find myself a part time job for the school year!

Speaking of work, there seems to be quite a few jobs available to an industrious young lad such as myself….I’ve been keeping my eye on the classifieds, and there seems to be a bunch of work in the hospitality business; I worked as a bartender last year, I’m thinking on doing the same this year…I’ll probably start to actively pursue work once the hockey season starts, things usually start picking up around that time. Working in the hospitality industry just seems to be a good fit as a student, as you can easily pick up shifts on evenings and weekends. Of course, the cash tips you get don’t hurt either!

Something I wanted to mention as well….the annual Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference is going on September 23 and 24 at the Agricom at Northlands park; anyone involved in the oil and gas industry should definitely check it out. There’s going to be a career exposition, so be sure to bring your resume!
