No man is an island.
I am blessed in so many ways and one of them is that I have friendships worth keeping with people back home and here in Edmonton. When I arrived last August 2006, I never really knew if I’d fit in considering the varied backgrounds and set of values I had. When I met my class a year ago I realized I was in for a wacky ride with a good bunch of people.
Our class in Hospitality Management is a noisy bunch. Noisy in the sense that we talk A LOT. I guess it is part of the job, where we deal with different people to get things done. Communication is very important in our line of business. We always get mean looks at the Project Factory from the other students because sometimes we couldn’t tone ourselves down. We are just emphatic and jolly people that we tend to chat as if we were addressing a whole auditorium filled with people. In the hospitality industry, people who can articulate themselves are quite an asset — and we sure feel like gold nuggets! Haha.
Our second year is about to end, and as it nears I feel sad. After this course my classmates will be scattered all over Canada and the rest of the world, working at hotels, resorts and cruise ships. International students like myself will either be going home or will try to find work here in Canada. Peoples lives will change, and I do hope it is for the better.
In life people come and go and true friendships will remain strong. I try to spend as much time with my class as I can, especially now that people are slowly trying to create a career path for themselves. I wish everyone well. The world is getting smaller and with Facebook and the internet, I am sure we will be able to keep in touch.
As I always tell my friends, NO GOODBYES. Instead, SEE YOU SOON! This exhilarating ride in our 2-year Hospitality Management course is about to end, but for sure, a new and exciting adventure will begin for us all.
Cheers to great friendships and good times!
I made a video of the fun times my friends and I had in our last trip together. I will miss them all terribly.
