I am proud to be Filipino.
When people ask me if I am Filipino, I proudly say, “Yes, I am.” Although I have been mistaken for an aboriginal student thrice already, I find it amusing that my facial features are a mix of different nationalities and cultures.Being different is cool. I love my brown skin, in fact a lot of my classmates wish they could be as tanned as I am! Now that my tan is slowly fading due to this cold weather, I dream of going back home to build my golden tan.
I love the Philippines.
Up to this day, I am still amazed at how I was able to bring 5of my classmates to the Philippines. It all started when I was telling my class about my country — our pristine white beaches, glorious shopping places and our warm hospitality (Notice how Filipinos just love to show their pearly whites?). We are just eager to please. I was homesick then and mentioned to my friend Chad that I will be going home this summer. He suddenly got excited and told me he wanted to tag along. Why not? Before I knew it, the whole class wanted to join me and in the end, five of them boarded the plane for a 3-weekvacation to the Philippines!
It was an adventure indeed! I wanted them to see the beauty of my country which was tainted mostly by negative publicity — terrorist attacks, corruption and poverty. We didn’t waste any time. Upon arrival in Manila, we hopped on a van that brought us to our beach house in the Philippines and there we conquered the sea — scuba diving almost 100 feet below sea level. Then we boarded a plane which took us to one of the best beaches in the world- BORACAY! There we partied day and night and enjoyed the gastronomic delights. After being a beach bum for almost 2 weeks we ended the trip with shopping and partying in the city. It was one of the best trips I had. We still dream of going back to the Philippines when we are in class. We can help but reminisce the good times we had, especially with this chilly weather.
Here is a group pic that we took on our last day in Boracay:

Thinking of warm and sunny thoughts. *sigh*
