The Campus Development Plan was developed to provide a vision of NAIT's growth for the next 30 years. The plan provides a framework for how we’ll transform our campuses, with innovation and sustainability at its core. It envisions the redevelopment of our existing land, facilities and buildings as well as the proposed expansion into the Blatchford lands, allowing us the opportunity to consolidate Souch and Patricia campuses at Main Campus.
Our goal is to develop our campuses to meet the needs of NAIT and create engaging public spaces with paths, gathering areas and open space — all of which will contribute to a positive experience for students, staff, visitors and the neighbouring community.
The plan acknowledges and builds upon changes that have made our campus what it is today. Over the last decade alone, NAIT has expanded with the addition of the Feltham Centre, the Productivity and Innovation Centre, the Heavy Equipment Technology building, and the Spruce Grove Campus — home to our Crane and Hoist programs.
A city-building initiative
The Campus Development Plan identifies opportunities for our campus to serve as an innovation and economic hub that strengthens our city – and our province. We aim for NAIT’s future campus to be a driver of innovation and development in the heart of Edmonton. Main Campus will be fully integrated with the Blatchford community to the west and better connected to Alberta Avenue to the east – and serve as a walkable and welcoming link between the two. It expands north as well, repurposing land with new uses and new energy.
This transformation will create jobs and contribute to the local and broader economy – not just through the development of campus, but also through our increased ability to support new and existing industry needs.
A sustainable future
All of this will be done with an eye on sustainability. Going forward, we will build upon our commitment to sustainability and continue to lower our operating costs and environmental impact.
Our long-term vision is to transform Main Campus into a complete community for learning, working and living. We are set to become even more vibrant, walkable, accessible and inclusive – all while staying true to our polytechnic roots.
