ASE239 Effective Communications

This online (Web) version of ASE239 will appeal to the following students:

• those who would like to get a jump on credits earned toward the technology of their choice

• those who can’t fit their year one communications course into their daytime schedule

• those wishing to upgrade their English and communications skills

ASE239 begins with a review of the principles of English structure and usage, providing a foundation in effective communications. Students will complete case studies that encompass common writing forms, and will prepare and deliver oral presentations. Topics include:

• overview of grammar

• standard sentence structure

• punctuation

• speech preparation and presentation

• technical presentations

• technical definitions, descriptions and instructions

• mechanics of technical writing

• business correspondence

• basic and advanced information search

• job search skills

Students should contact the instructor to discuss options for delivering the oral presentation that is part of course requirements.
