CTS20 CTS Summer Institute Foods

The Food Studies summer course is designed for CTS teachers looking to expand their knowledge on curriculum related to teaching Food Studies in a safe laboratory. Along with food preparation content, the course will cover the essentials of procurement, working with special needs students in a food lab, nutrition, sanitation, lab safety and aspects of managing food preparation projects in an educational environment.

This hands-on class is delivered in the NAIT state-of-the-art kitchens and covers the preparation of hot foods, cold foods and desserts suitable for junior high or senior high school classroom projects. Participants will be evaluated on the quality of their completed menu items and quizzes and assignments scheduled throughout the week.

Footwear and clothing appropriate for a food lab setting must be worn.

Students may apply for a Tuition Grant to a maximum of $400.00 at http://www.carcpd.ab.ca/CTS_PD/index.html

Prerequisites: Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent and currently teaching CTS.

All registrants will be contacted and asked to provide verification of their teaching status. ( Name of school and school administrator) prior to class commencement. Note: A material fee of 125.00 plus GST will be added upon registration, as well as the 6.00 NAITSA fee.
