FDC100 Furniture Design & Techniques - Level I

Learn the fundamentals of furniture design and furniture construction techniques! You will be introduced to the visual language of design and important theoretical concepts. You will also learn about common techniques, such as joinery, veneering and woodturning. The use and application of decorative moldings is also addressed.

This course is a prerequisite for four other courses:

• FDC101 Small Table Design & Construction

• FDC102 Small Cabinet Design & Construction

• FDC103 Basic Chair Design & Construction

• FDC104 Furniture Finishing

In FDC100, students will spend practical time on sketching, designing and creating models of future projects. The instructor will assign guidelines regarding the type of construction to be used, and the sketchings will be used in subsequent workshops FDC101, FDC102 and FDC103.

Prerequisite: FDC45 or FDC51

Hours: 36.00
