GET50 Introduction to Land Titles

Explore the complicated world of survey plans and land titles! Students will learn to interpret survey plans and explore the land registration system. A wide range of topics will be addressed, such as land titles forms and documents, land title searches, the Torrens systems of land registration, encumbrances, real property reports, title insurance, surveying monuments, and much more. The division of land (administrative, geographical and legal) is reviewed, as well as the Township System of survey in Alberta and the history of filing systems at the Land Titles office. Computer codes for remote searches are also discussed, as well as planning for searches on the Internet or at the Land Titles Office.

Note: This course will be of interest to those employed in the fields of real estate, land surveying, engineering, architecture, land appraisal or land development, as well as to land agents and employees of different municipalities or companies, including paralegal and utility firms.
