Examine the many types of Land Information Systems that are used to create, analyze and publish land-based data, such as parcel information, land use, ownership and property information.
This course includes eleven Saturday classes and is offered at a post-diploma technical or university level.
If you have a Geomatics Engineering Technology Diploma or surveying experience and you are preparing to write the certification exam administered by the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors (CBEPS), then this course is for you.
Students who have been accepted as a CBEPS candidate and successfully complete GET91 will earn an exemption from writing the CBEPS certification exam equivalency. For more information, please refer to the CBEPS Exemption Policy at www.cbeps-cceag.ca.
A wide range of topics will be covered. Examples of important topics include:
• overview of the Canadian Geodetic Control Framework, systems of survey and the mapping systems in Canada
• data topics: including metadata, data quality data format and data standards
• overview of cadastre topics, LIS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
• representation of spatial data, georeferencing and spatial analysis
• digital mapping and spatial representations of geographic features and occurrences
• LIS and legal issues
• role of the Professional Land Surveyor in the knowledge economy
Prerequisite: Geomatics Engineering Technology Diploma or demonstrated surveying education or experience
