LMC102 Introduction to Lean Manufacturing

Explore the true meaning of lean. Discover how lean production or lean manufacturing is super-focused on eliminating waste in every aspect of production, including customer relations, product design, supplier networks and factory management. A successful lean enterprise is one that continuously strives to eliminate waste, thereby increasing the percentage of time devoted to value-adding activities.

Students will learn that the more value you can add to your overall process, the more effective your operation will be. Examples of important study topics include:

• overview of lean manufacturing (the lean enterprise vehicle)

• creating a lean manufacturing culture

• identifying and mapping value streams

• team selection and training

• using Kaizen events for continuous improvement

• extending improvements to the entire supply chain

Prerequisite: LMC101
