LMC105 Cellular Design and Lean Accounting

Lean companies must be flexible. They must be ready at all times to meet customer needs, including changes or customizations. Cellular manufacturing allows companies to provide their customers with the right product at the right time. It does this by grouping similar products into families that can be processed on the same equipment in the same sequence.

Students will learn how companies can employ aggressive set-up reduction initiatives and quick changeover techniques to work towards or achieve “one piece flow” in their manufacturing cells. Examples of additional study topics include:

• cell layout design

• team training (how to operate as a cell)

• developing standard work for three production levels

• testing the system, documenting results

• modifications and continuous improvements
