MM552 Autobody MIG Welding

Learn the basic principles and practices of MIG welding! Did you know that today's vehicles are manufactured using high strength low alloys, ranging from 16-gauge to 26-gauge? In order to preserve the characteristics of these types of metals, welding must be done with a metal inert gas welder. Students will study the principles of metal inert gas welding on vehicle sheet metal to replace panels damaged by collision or corrosion.

Students will receive five hours of theory instruction and 19 hours of actual shop practice. Students will do a shop project where they replace a damaged area of a sheet metal panel. The course also devotes time to welder setup and diagnostics, and common weld problems.
