OMC104 Scheduling

Proper job sequencing or scheduling is a key part of operations management. The sequence in which jobs are processed is vital in determining the efficiency of an intermittent system. Sequencing decides the amount of job lateness, costs incurred for setup and change over, and the degree of congestion in the facility.

Students will learn practical techniques and skills to achieve proper job sequencing, including priority rules – and measures of effectiveness applied to the priority rules. Additional topics include:

• matrix deployment for job progress on machines

• graphical analysis of jobs on operations

• matrix deployment to determine “set-up” costs

• sequencing related to operations cost

• line of balance

Students must bring a calculator to class.
