PHT53 Photographic Lighting

Learn more about lighting techniques. Students will explore the use of electronic flash lighting in a studio setting and on location. Students will learn about the characteristics of light and how to light a subject for texture and form. Portable flash, flash fill, painting with light and combining different light sources will be emphasized. Additional study topics include:

• How to work with reflective objects, glassware and other difficult subjects

• Light control devices

• Tips on home studio photography

Bring your digital camera (DSLR) to each class. A USB flash drive would be handy to bring digital photo assignments to class for viewing.

Prerequisite: Students should have a good knowledge of their camera operation before enrolling. PHT10 Taking Control of Your Camera, or a similar course, would provide a good base of knowledge prior to taking this course.
