Course Overview
Students will learn the basics about the science of water and the common causes of backflow. The potential for backflow to cause contamination of water systems is addressed and emphasis is placed on approved methods of protecting the potable water supply. Additional topics include testing of approved devices, local codes and legal concerns.
As part of this course, students take a combined written and practical exam. A mark of 75% or greater allows the student to earn their American Water Works Association Testers Certification from the Western Canada Water and Wastewater Association. Students need to pay $100 to the instructor on the final course day to cover the cost of their AWWA registration/membership fee. AWWA certification fee is $100 plus GST (valid for 5 years).
It is recommended that students are Plumbers, Pipefitters, Steamfitters, Boilermakers or have experience with piping systems.
