WELD710 - Introduction to Welding 1st Year
Delivery of this program is accomplished through a blend of online distance learning along with shop based hours. Welding 1st year theory will be done independently by students through online studies assisted by an on-line tutor. Practical shop hours will be held in the labs and cover 1st year welding practical requirements. Welding practice on GMAW (gas metal arc welding), wire feed, metal core and oxy-acetylene cutting will be presented in a face-to-face format with an instructor during class hours.
This intensive blended delivery format offers a unique opportunity to study theory online and then attend classes during evenings and weekends. This combination enables students to complete the program quickly.
Students who successfully complete both the theory and practical evaluations at NAIT will be able to challenge their 1st year Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) exam. Students need a minimum of 65% on the theory components AND a minimum of 65% on the practical components at NAIT in order to be eligible to challenge the AIT exam.
Please note: Students are responsible for booking and paying for their 1st year AIT challenge exams upon completion of the program. The cost for testing on the practical and theory components is approximately $300.
Students will still need to complete the prescribed number of work hours in their trade to advance in apprenticeship after completion of this program.
