Course Overview

Prepare for your technical support role by exploring the concepts, installation, and configuration of PC hardware. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to describe the theoretical and practical issues related to installing and configuring computer hardware components.

Graduates of this course will be able to list the primary components of a PC, describe how the components work together, and name the basic procedures for adding and removing these components. You will also be able to describe Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) precautions, Interrupt Requests (IRQ), and port, memory, and Direct Memory Access (DMA) assignments. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to list procedures for altering configurations and describe Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE), Small Computer System Interfaces (SCSI), and Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) interfaces. You will also be able to install and configure slave IDE drives, and to change Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) setup information.

Prior to enrolling in this course, it is recommended that you complete CCTO101 Windows Desktop Operating System or have equivalent Windows 10 user-level skills.

  • Remote On-Demand Delivery: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online. While there are no set class meetings, there may be set due dates and deadlines for some activities. Students may interact with peers through virtual tools.
  • Remote Independent: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online, with no instructor support. While students choose when to do coursework, there may be set due dates and deadlines. 
  • Work Placement: Where: In-person meetings. When: Work is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Onsite work integrated learning. Location at a worksite.
