Course Overview

Are you currently running your own optical business or thinking about starting one? You need to consider a number of factors to make sure your business is equipped for long-term success. Apply the skills you gain in this course to run a successful optical business by effectively managing its financial, marketing, and human resource elements.

Build upon your business management skills and use them to boost your market presence, attract and retain patients, and streamline your day-to-day workflow. Identify techniques to market and advertise your optical products to increase brand awareness. Describe the best strategies for workforce planning, including staff recruitment and training. Evaluate the types of computer applications and information systems technology used in the optical field to aid and improve workflow.

Candidate must be a licensed optician or graduate of an Opticianry program.

  • Remote Live Delivery: Where: Online with instructor. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Instruction is delivered at set times online. Students do not come to campus.
  • Remote On-Demand Delivery: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online. While there are no set class meetings, there may be set due dates and deadlines for some activities. Students may interact with peers through virtual tools.
  • Remote Independent: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online, with no instructor support. While students choose when to do coursework, there may be set due dates and deadlines. 
  • Work Placement: Where: In-person meetings. When: Work is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Onsite work integrated learning. Location at a worksite.
