Dynamic Vision for safety training develops at NAIT

Dynamic Vision, an interactive 3D simulation and visualization company, is helping energy and manufacturing industries enhance workplace safety and training with support from NAIT's business accelerator, the Duncan McNeill Centre for Innovation.

The company uses 3D designs to create interactive simulation and e-learning solutions. While this technology has been widely used in the aerospace industry and military, the adoption of 3D design in other sectors, particularly oil and gas and manufacturing, is expanding the potential applications of interactive 3D simulation.

"We see a real opportunity for it in oil and gas and manufacturing, particularly in sales and marketing and workplace safety training," said Steve Zurakowski, Dynamic Vision President and Animation Director.

With the click of a mouse, equipment and procedures can be demonstrated - leaving employees with a better understanding of tasks and safety precautions.

"Studies show 3D is intuitive to people, far more than 2D. You have to interpret 2D and not everyone can understand complicated engineering drawings," said Brent McCormick, Business Development Manager. "People can look at a 3D visualization and understand what's going on."

Dynamic Vision moved into the Duncan McNeill Centre for Innovation at the start of the year to expand its interactive 3D simulation services to include workplace safety training for the oil and gas and manufacturing industries. The company also provides 3D visualization, animation and interactive 3D simulation for industry, engineers, developers, architects and marketers.

The NAIT Duncan McNeill Centre for Innovation provides private offices and specialized services to help inventors and entrepreneurs develop their business ideas into profitable ventures.

"Dynamic Vision is a great addition to the Centre," said Roger Armstrong, Manager of the Duncan McNeill Centre for Innovation. "We are confident they will be able to take advantage of the synergies we can provide that will help them grow their business."

Until last fall, Dynamic Vision was a one-person company, based in Steve's home. Today, it employs three people, including a student who graduates from NAIT's Digital and Interactive Media Design program in April.

"Being here is giving us time to grow, to get established," said Steve, adding the Centre provides great networking opportunities and eliminates some of the risk of getting an office space. "It will give us what we need to get to that next level."

Describing the processes involved in underground resource extraction can be a challenging task. Dynamic Vision created cross-sectional animation visuals to simply and clearly illustrate how steam-assisted gravity drainage works. [video: 29 sec]
