A re-imagined logo, a revitalized coat of arms
New Logo
An electronics student developed NAIT's first logo - the technology globe - in 1964. From this design came, a decade later, the NAIT acronym.
NAIT's vibrant new logo respects tradition, while looking forward, bringing design elements from that first technology globe into modern context. The logo positions us as a contemporary, established post-secondary institute. The shield is a timeless symbol that denotes strength, dignity and wisdom. The globe and its interlocking ridges connect NAIT with the expanding world of technology and knowledge.
New coat of arms
NAIT's new coat of arms - related to the logo by its globe-and-rays symbolism - is used in both official and ceremonial contexts, and appears as verification of authenticity on certificates, diplomas and degrees earned by graduates.
Each aspect of the design is symbolic:
The maple leaf represents Canada; the wild roses flanking the shield, Alberta.
The open book is a symbol of NAIT's commitment to learning.
The hammer represents NAIT's history in the skilled trades. Although NAIT has expanded beyond its early days as a centre for trades training, education in trades remains important, as does the philosophy of hands-on learning.
The key's traditional associations are success and prosperity, symbolizing the power of education to open doors to the future. It was adopted from the Fairview College coat of arms. The College merged with NAIT in 2004.
Our Latin motto Discere, Efficere, Praestare means: To Learn, To Do, To Succeed.
