Denturists are dental health professionals who specialize in the field of removable oral prostheses (dentures). Denturists work in partnership with other health professionals to deliver comprehensive treatment. As an oral health professional, the denturist must demonstrate strong communication skills to provide optimum patient care. In addition, denturists must possess manual dexterity, imagination, creativity, attention to detail and a desire to work with others.
The Denturist Technology program offers a challenging career for those individuals interested in providing direct patient care in oral health services. The program is designed to provide students with the theoretical, technical and clinical experiences required to assess, diagnose, design, fabricate and insert both complete and partial removable dentures. During the three-year program, students gain experience in communication skills, anatomy, oral pathology, laboratory procedures, denture design and practice management. Students apply theoretical knowledge in laboratory and patient care clinics.
Students must be highly motivated and mature to deal with the complexity of practice-management issues. Denturists are required to think independently, exercise good judgment, communicate effectively with others and work well in interprofessional teams.
