The CNC Machinist Technician program provides students with instruction and practical experience in two areas of the machinist trade, manual machining and CNC machining. During the first semester (16 weeks) students will receive training on manual machines such as engine lathes, milling machines, drill presses and grinders. Students who maintain a specified level of marks will be allowed to challenge the year 1 apprenticeship exam. There is a cost to write the apprenticeship exam that is paid directly to Alberta and Industry Training at the time of the exam. During the second semester (16 weeks) students will receive training on the operation, set up and programming of CNC turning and milling centres. The final component is 8 weeks of work experience. This gives students an opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in an industrial setting by working in a machine shop or manufacturing plant.
