NAIT’s Photographic Technology program prepares students for entry into the professional photographic career field with a comprehensive technical curriculum emphasizing digital photography. The program promotes a practical, hands-on approach to learning supported by appropriate theory
During the two years of study, Photographic Technology students learn to successfully handle a wide range of camera systems, apply optimum lighting in various settings, produce images for specific professional photographic needs, process images through traditional and digital means, develop applied computer skills and explore the creativity of electronic imaging. Courses in business practices, effective communications, business law, accounting and related issues prepare students for a variety of workplace situations.
Students have access to NAIT’s extensive studios, darkroom facilities and computer imaging laboratories, as well as the broad range of camera and lighting equipment required to complete their photographic assignments. Prospective students should be prepared for supply costs associated with the acquisition and use of advanced technology as well as consumable costs as the practical, hands-on nature of the training involves considerable production of photographic assignments.
The program provides numerous opportunities for students to interact with industry professionals. Such opportunities include guest lectures, seminars, assignment critiques, studio visits, field trips, professional experiences / practicum and participation in professional association activities.
