Telecommunications Engineering Technology

Would you be interested in a fast-paced, ever-changing, exciting career? What about a career that gives you unlimited fields to work in and enormous growth potential?

Information and communications technology is the technology of transmitting information (data, voice and video) from one point to another, knowing how much information is likely to be lost in the process and ensuring the data is usable on the other end. Information and communications technology covers all media used in communicating over a distance, including the Internet, computer networks, PDAs, radio, television, satellite, microwave and of course, the cellular phone and fibre optics.

The distance separating the various population centres in Canada makes the information and communications technology industry sector critical to the economic and social life of the country. Telecommunications is a fast-paced, exciting and ever-changing career path. It takes someone willing to think outside of the box, willing to adapt and ready for an experience of a lifetime.

NAIT's Telecommunications Engineering Technology program provides the building blocks necessary to begin your journey into information and communications technology. The program, growing from a general foundation of basic electricity, electronics, digital logic, mathematics, physics and computers, quickly specializes in the theoretical and practical aspects of the industry.

Students gain an extensive knowledge of information and communications transport media, voice-over IP, switching, Internetworking, fibre optics, wireless solutions, business management and network operating systems.
