NAIT’s Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Specialist certificate and Building Environmental Systems Technology programs offer training for the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industries. Graduates are in high demand as there is a shortage of trained people.
The HVAC Specialist program provides students with entry-level job readiness and partial credit for the first two years of apprenticeship. The goals of the program are to provide familiarity with the HVAC/R industry and understanding of the operating principles of industry-specific equipment, systems and procedures. The program emphasizes working with the equipment and systems.
Upon completion the graduate has the option of continuing with advanced studies in the Building Environmental Systems Technology program. The two-step training model provides students with job readiness after the completion of Year 1 of the HVAC Specialist program and then continues with more advanced studies over an additional year of training. The Building Environmental Systems Technology program prepares graduates to assume important and positive roles in the industry and to excel in the areas of troubleshooting, system analysis, system design/engineering, leadership or sales in the HVAC & R and building automation fields. Alberta Industry Training recognizes graduates of the Building Environmental Systems Technology program for full training credit and partial field hours toward certification in the refrigeration mechanic trade. For more information on apprenticeship credit, see the Graduate Information section.
