Do you love taking to the water on weekends? The recreational marine industry has a growing need for skilled marine mechanics to repair and maintain outboards, inboards, stern drives, personal watercraft and boats. (Please review our program videos on the home page, bottom right-hand corner.)
In the Marine Service Technician (Marine Mechanic) program, you’ll gain the skills that will lead to employment in this exciting and rewarding field. Students receive training in basic operation of two- and four-stroke cycle engines, manual starters, ignition systems, water pumps, fuel systems, tune-up procedures, electrical fundamentals and more.
You’ll learn basic service procedures for most popular outboards and stern drives. Plus you’ll receive instruction in basic parts management, inventory control and use of parts catalogues.
A low student-teacher ratio guarantees personal attention. The marine mechanic program is located at Patricia Campus, Edmonton, where close ties to industry and outstanding support from both dealers and manufacturers ensure the most up-to-date training possible.
A work experience component will help you gain further hands-on experience. Classes run from Monday to Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., leaving you ample time to take on a job or complete the work experience component during Semesters 1 and 2.
Service technicians, service managers, shop owners, and manufacturers’ technical representatives are just a few of the careers available in this field, and dealer demand continues to be strong throughout western Canada for graduates of this program.
