Emergency Medical Responder (Distance)

Overview

As an Emergency Medical Responder, yours will be an important role, responsible for initial scene survey, patient stabilization, trauma and medical patient care, pharmacology, automated external defibrillator (AED) administration and oxygen therapy. You’ll work collaboratively with doctors, paramedics, social services and search and rescue.

The EMR role is an entry point position in emergency medical services training, leading into Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic training. As an EMR, you’ll be a crucial part of the foundation upon which Canadian emergency medical systems are built. In rural and remote communities you may be the sole provider of emergency services as part of a volunteer organization. In bigger centres EMR’s are required in industry, the workplace, the police service and fire departments.

NAIT’s EMR program combines theory with hands-on practical skills to prepare you for employment in this challenging field. Successful candidates are eligible for the provincial Registration Exam with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
