Event Management Certificate
With the help of industry experts, the program and course content was completely redeveloped for the 2014/2015 academic year. We heard from those experts that they wanted our graduates to have a broader base and depth of information. The change allows students to draw from a wider variety of courses increasing their suitability for industry employment. This program is intended for those aspiring to a career in professional event management and for those already working in positions with event planning responsibilities.
The industry experts helped us to determine the outcomes of the program to ensure that graduates of the program will be able to:
- Generate and integrate creative ideas that translate into experiences that fulfill stakeholder requests
- Implement event management tools and industry processes required to execute and evaluate an event as define by stakeholders
- Create and implement an adaptable integrated marketing communication strategy specific to an event
- Build, manage, and maintain relationships that reflect professional and ethical leadership
Event Management graduates will excel at a multitude of project management skills within a variety of dynamic environments such as trade shows, conferences, meetings, milestone events, award ceremonies, new product launches, social/corporate events, and non-profit events. Lifelong learners, they are current with industry trends, cultural perspectives, and technology, weaving those strengths into each project. Event Managers are versatile in their abilities to lead, strategize, collaborate, and facilitate stakeholder-defined outcome targets. Able to understand shifting demographics an Event Management graduate will maintain healthy industry relationships while attracting, motivating, and retaining industry partners, staff, and volunteers.
Graduates of the Event Management Program are confident, self-motivated, passionate and ethical professionals who take pride in their work and the creative process required to manage, implement, and deliver in high-pressure environments. Event Management specialists are big picture thinkers who possess a “no-barriers” vision while maintaining attention to detail. Organized and resourceful, the graduate is a solution focused, innovative critical thinker with exceptional communication skills, demonstrating strong social and interpersonal relationship building skills, and able to work well on a team, both leading and serving.
Case studies, simulations, group analysis and discussions will help you develop the practical skills and knowledge needed to be an Event Manager. The activities are designed to give participants the best opportunities for learning not only what to do but how to do it well. Instructors are chosen for their ability to provide practical, relevant material acquired through personal education and experience.

NAIT Continuing Education is thrilled and honoured to be receiving the MPI Influence Award for significant contributions made to the local meetings and events Industry.
Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is the largest and most vibrant global meeting and event industry association. Founded in 1972, the organization provides innovative and relevant education, networking opportunities and business exchanges, and acts as a prominent voice for the promotion and growth of the industry. MPI membership is comprised of approximately 18,500 members belonging to more than 80 chapters and clubs in 22 countries. NAIT is pleased to be part of this organization in Edmonton.
We have recently registered our courses with the Convention Industry Council (CIC) so that Meeting Professionals can use NAIT event management courses as continuing education credits for their CMP designations.
The award was presented on April 14, 2016 at National Meetings Industry Day (NMID) that is celebrated across Canada. MPI has partnered with The International Special Events Society to host a celebration luncheon at the Shaw Conference Centre recognizing the local meetings and events industry.
