AHT Equivalency Assessment Service

Overview

NAIT offers a progressive series of services to assist individuals seeking registration as Animal Health Technologists or Veterinary Technicians in Canada. It is important to note, this service is NOT an educational program. For further information on Animal Health Technology Diploma Programs, visit http://caahtt-acttsa.ca/resources/programs/recognized-ahtvt-programs

Individuals apply directly to NAIT for the following assessment stages.

  • Educational/Credential Assessment (pre-requisite for GVK exam)
  • Written Online Exam in General Veterinary Knowledge (GVK exam) (pre-requisite required)
  • Clinical Skills Proficiency Evaluation including separate evaluations in: (pre-requisite required)
    • Basic Skills
    • Small Animal Skills
    • Large Animal Skills

Successful completion of all stages results in a Certificate of Completion from NAIT. It does not guarantee acceptance of an application for registration or membership with appropriate provincial associations.

Depending on the province a candidate is residing in and seeking registration/membership as an AHT, they may be able to apply for temporary licensure/registration to begin working in a supervised capacity as an AHT upon applying for the AHT Equivalency Assessment Services. Exposure to veterinary medicine in a supervised capacity may increase a candidates success at each stage of the assessment stream. Contact provincial regulatory bodies for further information about registration and/or membership requirements.
