Kitchen Skills Cooking Courses
The world’s most accomplished chefs all have one thing in common — they have mastered the basics. They know how to care for their knives, identify flavours, expose the qualities of vegetables, select cuts of meat, prepare the essential sauces and plate everything with exquisite attention to detail.
The Kitchen Skills series was created to help you develop your fundamental techniques and skills. From the NAIT professional kitchen facility you will gain the basic knowledge and know-how to cook with confidence.
The classes include lecture, demonstration and hands-on application of the skills. You will practice all you learn so you can bring your new skills home with you!
Put on your apron, it’s time to get in the kitchen! Knives, equipment and food are provided for classroom use.
Note: We encourage all students to register a week prior to the course start date to avoid the risk of being placed on a waiting list due to high enrolment, or having the class cancelled due to low enrolment.
To be awarded the Culinary Kitchen Skills Certificate, students must complete all five courses in the Kitchen Skills series: CULG210, CULG220, CULG230, CULG240, and CULG250.
Please note that CULG210 Kitchen Skills I and CULG220 Kitchen Skills II are prerequisites for the other Kitchen Skills courses.
Important: Students are asked to bring an apron, food containers, and grocery bags to take home their tasty creations. The recommended footwear for these courses should be closed toe, non-slip leather shoes. Do not wear loose clothing and jewelry.
