Student for a Day
What is Student for a Day?
Student for a Day is an opportunity for prospective students to experience what a day in their program of interest feels like. By attending Student for a Day, prospective students have the opportunity to meet with a NAIT advisor, participate in a campus tour to learn about our facilities and services, and attend classes/labs to get a glimpse into their program of interest.
Student for a Day is intended for individuals that have done significant research into their program of interest. We recommend attending Open House and/or Program Previews before registering for Student for a Day. Please note that due to high demand, we will prioritize those registrants that have shown comprehensive research into their program of interest (there will be a place to indicate the research you've done on the Student for a Day Registration Form).
When is Student for a Day offered and how can I register?
Student for a Day is offered in October, November, January, February, and March.
To register for Student for a Day, please fill out this form.
Please note that the form must be submitted a minimum of 7 business days prior to your requested date. We will make every effort to accommodate your preferred date(s), but will contact you as soon as possible if alternative dates need to be arranged.
Do all programs participate in Student for a Day?
Most NAIT programs participate in this initiative. Find a full listing of participating programs here. If your program of interest does not participate in Student for a Day, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to learn about other exploration opportunities.
What is included in Student for a Day?
NAIT has a wide range of programs, and therefore Student for a Day will look different for each program. Typically, Student for a Day visits will include shadowing at least one class or lab from your program of interest. It is also possible to schedule a general advising appointment and/or campus tour during your Student for a Day visit, and you can indicate interest in these activities on your registration form.
What information would be covered during a general advising appointment?
NAIT’s Academic Advisors are here to help you explore your program options, guide you in creating a personal education and career plan, and help you determine the pathways to get there. This is done through guided and independent exploratory activities; by asking open-ended questions, considering your interests, values, and goals; and by facilitating informed decision-making to make the best decision for your situation. Our advisors can also help you explore funding options, help you create a budget to meet your needs, as well as provide immigration advising should this be of benefit to you. Our academic advisors are here to provide a holistic student experience, and ensure you understand next steps to guide you on your journey.
Will I get to spend the entire day with a current student?
When possible, we will pair you with a current student for each class or lab that you attend.
Will I have a chance to talk to instructors about their industry experience?
While there may be an opportunity to talk to instructors, it is not a guarantee as they will be focused on teaching the class/lab you are observing.
Keep in mind that Student for a Day is an opportunity to experience a day as a student in your program of interest, but it is not a career investigation or informational interview opportunity. If you have questions about career opportunities and labor trends, we suggest that you take advantage of the general advising appointment as part of your visit. Our advisors can show you resources to help you learn more about the job and labor market.
What is the minimum age requirement?
Student for a Day is only available for those students that are at least 15 years of age.
How do I create a NAIT Student ID?
