You want to be a steamfitter-pipefitter. You want to learn how to lay out, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair piping systems, which are used to carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes. You are mechanically inclined and have a basic understanding of piping systems and techniques.
But you want to learn more, like how to measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, assemble and install all types of metal, plastic and fibreglass pipes, valves and fittings. You also need more experience studying blueprints, drawings and specifications, which determines the type of pipe and tools to use, as well as guides the lay out and sequence of tasks.
At NAIT, we’re here to teach you everything you need to know:
-making detailed sketches for pipe and equipment fabrication and installation
-manufacturing brackets and supports for assembled piping systems
-joining pipe sections securely in position
-working closely with certified welders to tack fittings and pipe in place
