Course Overview

Switching and routing define the core of information and communication technologies. Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to define Internet Protocol routing schemes, define and compare LAN switching, and design and troubleshoot IP address schemes.

This course builds on your knowledge of Internet Protocol (IP) routing and Local Area Network (LAN) switching fundamentals. Graduates of this course will be able to describe the other interior gateway protocols (IGPs), as well as the exterior gateway protocol and its purpose. Design and troubleshoot IP address schemes, apply Routing Information Protocol (RIP), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and implement and verify RIP, EIGRP and OSPF. You will be able to describe the Intermediate System-Intermediate System (IS-IS) routing protocol and demonstrate the foundation concepts of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). You will also be able to identify the similarities and differences between Layer 3 switching and a Multilayer Switch (MLS).

It is recommended that you complete CCTM103, IP Routing Fundamentals, and CCTM203, LAN Switching Fundamentals, prior to enrolling in this course.

  • Work Placement: Where: In-person meetings. When: Work is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Onsite work integrated learning. Location at a worksite.
