Continuing Education Department at NAIT is launching the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program (SMEC) – a certification program offered in partnership with Siemens, one of the world's largest high-tech manufacturers. The program focuses on Siemens' System Approach. The courses adopt a practical, learn-by-doing, methodology in order to best prepare participants to work with a holistic understanding of mechatronic systems.
These four courses will prepare you for the certification as a Siemens Certified Mechatronic System Assistant. The job profile for which the level 1 certification prepares you is that of a machine operator, who has a well-rounded understanding of the complex interrelationships and inter-workings of a mechatronic system.
- Describe the basic functions and physical properties of electrical components, and explain preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety issues for electrical components within the system.
- Describe the basic functions and physical properties of mechanical components, as well as electrical drives (AC and DC), and the roles they play within the system.
- Describe the basics of pneumatic, electro-pneumatic, and hydraulic control circuits in a complex mechatronic system.
- Explain the fundamentals of digital logic and an introduction to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in a complex mechatronic system, with a focus on the automation system SIMATIC S7-1500, and the appropriate programming software, Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal.
Once you have successfully completed all four courses, you will be ready to sit for the Level 1 certification examination. This will be administered through a neutral testing centre. By successfully passing the Level 1 Certification Examination will you be awarded the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Assistant Certificate.
