Would you communicate differently when addressing a stranger, a friend, a classmate, your instructor the President of NAIT, or your superior at work? Of course, you would, and should. Context and your audience necessitate an appropriate approach for communication to be effective. And remember, communication is not just the words coming out of your mouth, or on paper... it's also the attitude that conveys them. This course provides opportunities to apply communication concepts and skills to an IT or Digital Media environment. It will allow students to further enhance their skills in formal research, academic and business writing, discussion facilitation, as well as formal presentations that are well-devised, researched, substantiated and documented, some of the foundational skills for career success. All forms of business communication have their own set of standards and guidelines. This course is about the commonly accepted rules that guide effective business communication. The premise for this course is that those who communicate well are recognized and move up the career ladder more expeditiously. Therefore, motivation to communicate well must be strong among those in pursuit of career success.
