Power Electronics I

In this course, students are introduced to power semiconductor devices and basic power electronic circuits. Students will study controlled and uncontrolled rectifiers, as well as current source and voltage source inverters. Applications of these circuits include cathodic protection, HVDC power transmission, and motor drives. Students will learn how to apply appropriate metering to ensure compliance of power electronic systems with utility power quality standards.
