This course examines power electronic motor controller technologies and their applications. Students will study the structure and operation of power electronic soft starters and variable frequency drives (VFD’s). The performance of these technologies during the motoring and the braking of induction motors is covered. Students also learn to configure soft starter and VFD parameters, to troubleshoot common VFD faults and alarms, to size and specify VFD’s, and to commission power electronic equipment installations.
