The field of Disaster and Emergency Management is extremely dynamic, involving many concepts, best practices, and management approaches, which are ultimately dependent upon the understanding of human behaviour in disaster. You will gain insight into the behavior of individuals, communities, and organizations during disasters. This course also focuses on the mental health and well-being of the individual practitioner and students will spend some time learning about strategies and tools to help safeguard themselves, as well as others who may be vulnerable. This overview will assist your work in future disaster and emergency-related courses by providing you with a solid foundation upon which to explore mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery strategies that consider the human condition. The themes covered in this course apply to any individual, organization, or community, regardless of size, capacity, location or culture.
