An introduction to the evolution of the built environment from ancient civilizations to the contemporary era. A variety of historical periods are reviewed and include highlights of significant achievements in architecture. Projects are presented along with the context of time, place, and culture to explain the reasons for their specific characteristics and contributions to the art of design and building.
