Medical Laboratory Technologists need to be able to recognize normal and abnormal hematological results, perform manual and automated testing in the hematology department and initiate appropriate follow-up to spurious results. In this course, the production and function of normal blood cells (leukocytes, erythrocytes, thrombocytes) will be studied. The focus will be on benign blood cell conditions. Laboratory sessions will emphasize the methods, techniques, and microscopic evaluation of clinical specimens. The theory and basic testing of coagulation will also be covered.
