Students will apply the theoretical concepts and practical skills acquired in the didactic phase of the program under the supervision of trained facilitators in a clinical laboratory. They will rotate through all major disciplines: clinical chemistry, hematology, histology, microbiology, and transfusion medicine as well as phlebotomy. They will gain experience in processing and analyzing various clinical specimens, and will further develop critical thinking and troubleshooting skills. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring the skills required for an entry level technologist and meeting all competencies as outline by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Successful completion of the clinical placement will enable students to challenge the national CSMLS exam.
