All eligible POWT Diploma Program students will be hired or placed on a paid or unpaid plant practicum in either the spring, fall or winter terms in order to satisfy 530 hours of the ABSA-required 3rd Class steam time. The purpose of this course is to provide industrial power engineering experience in the field. Students will write personal learning goals during the first month of their practicum. Students will keep a daily logbook of their work experience and write a report based on their experience, their learning goals, and their logbook notes. The student's supervisor will evaluate the student and provide an attendance record. The student and supervisor will complete the appropriate components on the ABSA forms and hand these in with the other practicum requirements. Note: that in the absence of this practicum course, ABSA requires six months of 3rd Class steam time for course equivalency.
Students must have a valid Fourth Class Certificate registered with ABSA or in the jurisdiction that they are working in and be enrolled in the Power Engineering Technology Diploma program.
